Show-down with elder at the kingdom hall

this is podcast 8 in the death or obedience series.. this was recorded on christmas day 2008.. after our last visit from two local elders my wife felt she could no longer be known as a jehovah's witness and had chosen to disassociate herself in november 2008.. we had been on a family holiday and had returned to find that one of the local elders who had visited us had warned off my mother-in-law from having anything to do with my wife - her daughter.

he also made false statements about one of my children.. i decided to confront this elder at the kingdom hall.

this podcast is the recording of our conversation.. notice how he denies making such statements to my mother-in-law and falsely accuses me of teaching her beliefs contrary to jehovah's witnesses.. i ask whether it's a sin to no longer be a jehovah's witness?.

Pretty nifty piece of footwork avoiding the question "Is Jesus God" Me I am happy to worship Jesus. From reading the Gospells and the way he lived and treated people Jesus is exactly the God I am drawn to. And who was it that disfellowshipped the blind man who put faith in Jesus and worshipped him? some fifteen years ago when i woke up to the deception and deprogrammed myself ....i tried to rescue my wife but she refused to consider anything that questioned wt authority.

i was however successful with my son, now 26 and working as a psychologist.

Thanks guys The sad part is that all this fearmongering over the years has had an adverse affect on her health. Angina and bowel problems caused by the stress. And there is not a damn thing we can do about it

My son and his mother have had a pleasant relationship so far, for he knows how to relate to her authentic self and avoid the cult personality. But just recently she has been making frantic efforts to witness to him. Insisting also that not talking to me his Dad for more than 12years....thats love

What he asked me was "what have they been learning recently at the hall that would account for this sudden change in her behaviour"

Is Being Disfellowshipped or Disassociated All That Bad?

most jws dread the thought of never being talked to again by a fellow "brother" or "sister".

the thought of being shunned by your flesh and blood keeps many witnesses in the religion.. is df'ing or dissasociation all that terrible?

Living together - Living in sin?

i was df'd for moving in with my then boyfriend (now husband).

that was ten years ago.. my husband and i lived together for about 5 and a half years before we got married.

from day one we both talked about getting married and having children in the future but we wanted it to be something more special than a quick juant to a registry office for appearances sake.

i know i have been through all those stages, i denied it, then i got angry, definitely sad.

months and months of this, and i still am in for my family and friends.. but sometimes i just feel stupid.

why did i ignore basic common sense for so long?

From reading the comments on this board I would say that the ex's here are anything but stupid. Understandably some have emotional issues but to their credit they recognise them and take measures to resolve them. I try very hard in my posts to say something intelligent to fit in As a witness I was ignorant I did not have the whole picture. I was idealistic rather than pragmatic and I trusted the Org believing as I did that they had Jah's blessing No I don't believe I was stupid and niether were you
